Coastal Fund Administrative Assistant
The Coastal Fund Administrative Assistant provides general clerical assistance to the Board members, and A.S. Advisor. This student must be organized, possess good written/verbal communication skills, and take initiative on special projects given to her/him. Requires attention to detail and accuracy, basic knowledge of Macintosh computers, and general clerical duties. Office experience is preferred.
Specific Tasks
- Provide support for the agenda for the weekly CF Board meetings
- Attend CF Board of Directors meeting (Monday 6:00PM)
- Participate in the discussion of merits of CF submitted proposals at Board of Directors meetings
- Type CF minutes
- Assist the Board Members and Grants Manager in planning special environmental programs and projects
- General filing of documents
- Database entry of new project information
- General maintenance of office
- Assist with development of flyers and CF brochure
- Distribute Campus Beaches Guide and marketing items campuswide
- Other duties as assigned by the CF Grants Manager or Board

THE COASTAL FUND OUTREACH AND EDUCATION COORDINATOR
Unique opportunity to make a difference at UCSB and in the coastal conservation community. Help Coastal Fund get the word out on how to protect our coastline and activate students to get involved!
The
Coastal Fund Outreach Coordinator will provide assistance to Board members and CF Grants Managers and implement outreach initiatives and strategies. The Outreach Intern will contribute significantly to the growth of CF and will have freedom and flexibility to create ideas/program to advance our outreach goals. The intern would be exposed to inner workings of the CF and numerous local environmental projects and programs. The Outreach and Education Coordinator will report directly to the Board Chair.
Duties:
- Interface with campus organizations and community groups to increase awareness of the CF and encourage proposal submissions.
- Disseminate Coastal Fund Literature (ie brochures)
- Develop and manage on-campus education/awareness programs to actively involve students in coastal conservation
- Create and maintain a CF display box at the UCen as a campus awareness tool.
- Assist in organizing CF events
- Maintain the CF website
- Manage press releases and maintain contact with the Nexus to promote the CF.
- Help develop and order merchandise materials.
Requirements:
- Attend Board of Directors meeting every Monday at 6pm
- Available Academic Year 2009/10
- Posses strong organization, good written/verbal communication skills
- Work well independently
- Self motivated and take initiative on special projects

Coastal Service Program Coordinator
The Coastal Service Program Coordinator is in charge of scheduling student groups for costal enhancement events, including getting supplies ready, managing paperwork, and keeping statistics of all participating groups. Requires attention to detail and accuracy, basic knowledge of Macintosh computers, and general clerical duties. Office experience is preferred. Approximately 5-8 hours per week at $8.50 per hour starting pay rate.
The Associated Student Coastal Fund Coastal Service Program helps keep our community litter-free and improve our natural areas through fundraising incentives for campus groups. Student organizations can raise funds by participating in one of several regular community volunteer days including beach and street clean ups as well as restoration as a way to enhance our local natural areas.

COASTAL FUND BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Consider joining the all-student Coastal Fund Board of Directors, responsible for allocating over $350,000 in funds each year to enhance the shoreline associated with UCSB through preservation, education, open access, research, and restoration. Open to all majors. This is a rare and unique opportunity to make a huge difference at UCSB and get involved with the local community. The primary duties of the Board Member include reviewing submitted grant proposals each quarter and evaluating them based on relevance to the Coastal Fund Mission Statement. Qualified students are responsible for distributing funding each year and will learn a great deal about local campus and community programs which benefit our coastline. Please visit

Board member Requirements
- Enthusiasm for coastal protection.
- Current Freshman or Sophomore standing enrollment at UCSB.
- Experience with environmental issues.
- Eagerness to participate in discussion of proposals and express strong opinion.
- Willngness to advance the CF Mission Statements and represent the organization within the campus community.
- Availability to serve at least a two-year term.
- Commitment to attend all Monday evening meetings (6-9 PM) which are held each academic quarter from week 2-7.
- Commitment to read submitted proposals on own time (2 hours/ week).
- Commitment to participate in the development of Coastal Fund and engage in Coastal Fund outreach activities.
- Background knowledge in natural sciences/ Environmental studies a plus.
