Scott Bull

Education
Scott Bull completed a Bachelors of Science Degree in Environmental Studies with Honors at UCSB. After working at the Marine Science Institute for several years, Scott received a fellowship for graduate research in marine restoration in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Ecology. He completing a Master’s Degree in Marine Biology in 2003 and published his research "Evaluation of Techniques for Surfgrass Restoration" in Restoration Ecology in May 2004

Activism
While an undergraduate at UC Santa Barbara, Scott co-founded the Isla Vista Chapter Surfrider Foundation in 1994. He later lead a campus-wide ballot initiative in 1999 that established the Coastal Fund (formally the Shoreline Preservation Fund) which raises $180,000 each year to be distributed in grants for local coastal enhancement. Scott was instrumental in the establishment of the Fund serving as chair of the Board of Directors for the first two years of its founding. The fund currently distributes over $350,000 in annual funding.

His commitment to community issues elected him to the Gaviota Coast Conservancy (GCC) Board of Directors in 2001, Citizens Planning Association Board of Directors in 2003, and Goleta Valley Beautiful Board of Directors in 2005, of which he still serves on all.

Scott has continued to play an important role with the Santa Barbara Chapter and Isla Vista Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation over the past twelve years, currently as Chair of Santa Barbara Chapter and student affairs advisor for IV Surfrider. He is a key lead activist on several major coastal issues with Surfrider, and is responsible for events and outreach.

Employment
Scott worked part time for the City of Santa Barbara Creeks Restoration and Water Quality Improvement Division conducting creek and ocean water quality monitoring efforts from 2003-2005. Currently, he is employed with the University of California Santa Barbara in Associated Students. He serves primarily as the Coastal Fund Grants Manager, in addition to Student Affairs Advisor to influencial UCSB student organizations with large annual budgets including AS Recycling Program, Environmental Affairs Board, and AS BIKES.

On his free time, Scott enjoys traveling to distant countries and surfing local breaks along the Gaviota and Santa Barbara coastline.
