Announcement from the Board regarding COVID-19 and our Fall 2020 Grant Cycle:

To our friends and partners,

The Coastal Fund Board recognizes that current national and global conditions are both worrisome and uncertain, and that it may be some time before we return to a level of normalcy. The majority of UCSB classes, staff, and faculty are operating remotely through at least the fall quarter. We at the Coastal Fund are trying to move forward and remain as flexible as possible.

Keeping that in mind, Coastal Fund is still holding the Fall 2020 grant cycle with some changes. Refer to the deadlines listed below for applying, but for the foreseeable future all meetings and grant presentations will be conducted via Zoom to maintain social distancing and to accommodate members who are not staying near campus this quarter. Because we will not be meeting in person, we encourage applicants to submit any additional supplemental material they feel might be helpful along with their applications; we will enable screen-sharing as needed during presentations for applicants who would like to present slides or other visuals during the meetings. Meetings will be held Tuesday evenings per usual.

In addition, Coastal Fund will continue to work with our partners who have already received funding and either need to adjust their project scope or timeline due to local restrictions. Please contact us with any questions.

Further, for the fall quarter, our Coastal Service Program will be on hiatus in order to keep our students and partners safe.

We thank everyone for their efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and will share updates on when we can begin reconvening in person.

Implementing a Minor Funding grant:

  2. If you would like help in recruiting interns, please let us know and we can advertise any openings on our listserv.
  3. Conduct your project according to the approved application, taking any adjustments from the Board into account.
  4. If over the course of your project you need to reallocate funding from one budget line item to another, fill out and submit a Reallocation Request. If you will not complete your project by your approved end date, fill out and submit an Extension Request.
  5. At the conclusion of your project, have any Coastal Fund sponsored interns complete an Intern Evaluation.
  6. Complete the Minor Grant Final Report within 30 days of the project completion and return it to Coastal Fund along with any unspent funds, proof of expenditures and accounting, copies of any publicity material or awards, and any additional documentation.
