Who is eligible to apply for event sponsorship?
Events overseen or done in partnership with UCSB departments are Santa Barbara organizations with significant direct UCSB student involvement are eligible to apply. UCSB student organizations are also eligible, though they may find more flexibility in types of events funded and greater available resources by applying to the AS Finance and Business Committee.
What distinguishes event sponsorships from grants?
Grants are often long-term projects that implement parts of the Coastal Fund mission whereas event sponsorships are single or multi-day events that focus primarily on education and outreach relating to our coastal resources and advocacy. Sponsorships are not exclusively a monetary contribution from Coastal Fund; active participation in the event is also possible depending on availability and need.
Event funding policies
- Sponsored events must closely fit within the Coastal Fund mission statement
- A sponsorship is intended to cover specific event expenses and is not a general donation for fundraising purposes; the application therefore requires an itemized request
- Sponsored events must allow for attendance by UCSB students
- TheĀ Coastal Fund logo must be used in event advertising
- Any unspent funds must be retained by or returned to Coastal Fund after the event
- Funding recipients will be expected to complete a final check in meeting with Coastal Fund staff after the completion of their event and document final expenses
